Alabama Shakes has the yearning of legendary soul man, Sam Cooke, the air of the 60’s, and they have got Brittany Howard. She is the Nina Simone-esque pipes behind this 4-piece, and the glue to their soulful pieces. As one might presume, this quartet represents their home state by way of title and style.
The band is somewhat in its infancy, but with Adele’s unfortunate vocal troubles, there is a void in the retro-modern scene, and Alabama Shakes is just the filler, if not replacement. Dead Weather fans, be prepared to fall in love. Happy listening!
