Interior designer Charlotte Taylor along with 3D artist Hannes Lippert imagined a home constructed almost entirely from tiles.
They created this virtual home, the Tiled House, using d-tiles, a versatile material made in the Netherlands that can bend around edges and corners creating a “blanket of tiles, with a single, unbroken grid of tilework. This system allows any space, object or surface to be fully tiled”.
Using these square tiles, the duo played with the very conventions of the material itself, pushing it into a more domestic and warm setting and introducing tiles into spaces where they are less used, such as the living room and the bedroom.
Charlotte Taylor and Hannes Lippert used the tiles to also build-in most of the furnishing, like the dining table, the sofa and the bed. They also created the recessed niches where to display vases and design pieces and adding in this way a personal touch.
These unconventional and uninterrupted surfaces created by the tiles give a feeling of a fluid, playful and futuristic space.
