Pharrell is in a league of his own. He has proved through and through to wear his plethra of hats with unmatched success including producer, singer, rapper, fashion designer, and of course his latest hat which is now being auctioned for thousands of dollars after being criticized for it’s bulky/awkward appearance.
Last year alone brought him 4 grammys for his contribution to Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories, Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines”, and an individual accolade for producer of the year. It didn’t stop at that. He then released a groundbreaking 24 hour music video for his ever so catchy “Happy”, not to mention the song itself was nominated for an Oscar for it’s role in the soundtrack of Despicable Me II.
And finally, we get to his much anticipated solo album G I R L. Pharrell gave itunes radio the go ahead today to make the album which drops March 3rd available for streaming. There is some interesting back story to Pharrell buckling down and working on his own original material since he is such a hot commodity in the music world as a producer and collaborator. Check out Zane Lowe’s interview with him for the inside scoop on how this album came about.
G I R L includes 10 tracks featuring Justin Timberlake, Daft Punk, Miley Cyrus, Alicia Keys, and JoJo, who appears on the bonus song “Freq.” It is complete with that timeless signature Pharrell style that we have all come to love and trust and undoubtedly will hold the throne as one of the best records of this year.
