Blue Hawaii : Get Happy

A hybrid of monotone vocals, delicate repetition, acoustic layers, and aggressive romance amount to “Get Happy” (Arbutus Records) – the latest release from Canadians, Blue Hawaii (Raphaelle Standell-Preston and Alexander Cowan). Elliot Smith meets The Naked and Famous? The track is silky, asymmetrical, and full of unexpected sound as their music goes. The electronic / ambient pop duo have been at it since 2010 and still breaking through. Their latest album “Untogether” (2012) continues to rise for it’s unique execution.

“Musically, the production on the album is more spacious and physically it was recorded in separation…It demonstrates successful creative process in a pair who composed apart, and in doing so it is a meditation on communication: how technology and art influence modern human relationships. It contains the vast space of two years passing, including watching their Montreal scene change as some launched into international success and others turned deeper inwards. Here, the album finds the conflict of separation/belonging to one’s self and community.”

Soak up the siren and rhythm with this track and bring it full circle with their earlier material also below. Kind of have their own thing going on, refreshing.
