Baths : Stupor

Baths is twenty-one year old Will Wiesendfeld and he is about to put Chatsworth, California on the map. As of late he has created a nice little buzz for himself in the blogosphere. Pitchfork has already posted a couple of his tracks, he has recently signed to Anticon with an album by the name of Cerulean slated for a June 22 release and has already been compared to the likes of Washed Out meets J-Dilla meets The Books.

Although I am sure he isn’t complaining about the above comparisons this early on, something tells me there is more to Baths than just a glo-fi meets beat scene wiz-kid and nothing proves that more than a track entitled Stupor that surface on the net last week. Stupor kicks in with an organic drum beat and Wiesendfeld singing as if he was a wise-man giving advice on love, in the most playful and yet heartfelt way imaginable. Although the lyrics are quite simple “Oh, though the woman may cause it; don’t get in a stupor – If she loves you, she’s your buddy too/ Your heart swells easy; Don’t be afraid, so do all of ours.” and the only other musical parts include a simple guitar line, banjo and some vocal samples… Stupor is a unconventional pop gem that doesn’t sound like Washed Out, Dilla or The Books but rather a twenty-one year old kid that goes by Baths.
