Wood Caricatures

Maybe you thought you had seen everything made of wood, but these playful Caricatures from Merijn Hos use wood in a surprisingly new dimension.

The Netherlands based artist made the figures originally for an exhibition at the Stedelijk Museum Kampen on display in 2012, called “Grenzeloos” translated as “Boundless”. 360 sculptures were made, starting the process by drawing everything from plants, faces and pottery in an elementary form. The result was to narrow each item down to the essence of their abstract frame, and then cut out of wood for the finalization of house paint and acrylics.

The best part of these naive and spontaneous creatures? They are purchasable.
