“Together- The Power of Collaboration” Exhibition at Gallery FUMI [London]

After an extended time in isolation, creatives begin to rediscover the energy and inspiration that comes from collaboration. To emphasize this phenomenon, Sam Pratt and Valerio Capo, the owners of Gallery FUMI in London, invited international artists and designers to form “collaborative duos”.

Matching Emma Witter with Shinta Nakajima, Rowan Mersh with Sam Orlando Miller, Casey McCafferty with Saelia Aparicio, Kustaa Saksi with Nikari, Tina Roeder with Francesco Perini, Lukas Wegwerth with Voukenas Petrides, Glithero with JAMESPLUMB, Jie Wu with Tuomas Markunpoika, Max Lamb with Study O Portable, and Johannes Nagel with atelier lachaert dhanis, the groups were asked to produce artefacts for the gallery space. And that is how the “The Power of Collaboration” exhibition came about.

The artists and designers that collaborated for the exhibition had to overcome many obstacles in the process. Working from separate continents, communicating via online applications, sending sketches back and forth. There were collisions of styles and methods, mediums and techniques. Leading to, sometimes controversial, but more often unique and playful outcomes.

For example, the Multi-functional Sculptural Work by Saelia Aparicio and Casey McCafferty, consisting of a side table and a lamp. The Proposal For An Ecosystem (2021), was carved from Ashwood by McCafferty and decorated with Aparicio’s Stain Dye and Chinese Ink drawings.

All works represented a myriad of unique material interpretations and techniques. Reminding us of the unlimited potential that exists in the (creative) collaboration.
