Vladimir Restoin Roitfeld and Bortolami’s Christine Messineo recently teamed up to curate an exhibition at 980 Madison, Mercy Merci, and sat down with Whitewall to talk inspiration and influences in the curation process.  The duo explains that they met through Restoin Roitfeld’s sister, and decided to take advantage of the available exhibition space by pairing “35 blue-chip names with emerging ones” centering around language and text-based works. Jenny Holzer, who had a prominent corner in the exhibition, created monochrome redacted government documents, as Aaron Young placed police barricades in front of the Holzer work.  Other artists such as Philippe Parreno contributed, recreating journal entries of Marilyn Monroe, while Louise Bourgeouis brought it all together with the show’s namesake piece.
