French urban artist Thom Thom aka Hephaestus or Thomas Louis Jacques Schmitt is not a typical street artist, working only on billboards, he cuts, slashs, slices, and re-sticks to reconstruct the advertising message to distinguish it and upgrade it into street art. The consumerist publicity is first violently mutilated and then metamorphosed into committed artwork.
Ephemeral by nature, this creative barely finished, is often already recovered again by boring traditional advertising.
But Thom Thom has not wasted his time. During the long hours needed to accomplish that urban re-looking, the artist has had opportunities to explain to the by-passers the the ins and outs of his approach.
