Julia Potato is a Moscow-based artist and photographer, inspired by surrealism and abstraction but her latest project titled “Sad Colors of the Ocean” is down-to-earth.The images show plastic picked from the Tenerife’s beaches, arranged into color-synced compositions set against solid backgrounds. Potato tries to aestheticize the damages inflicted to the planet and captures pieces of plastic in a form of a still life. Impeccable photographs appear unsettling as soon as we realize their context.
