In an evaluation of punk from the 1970s to now, Punk: Chaos to Couture at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York was an exhibition of exactly that. Taming the chaos of punk through galleries aptly named DIY: Hardware, DIY: Bricolage, DIY: Graffiti and DIY: Destroy and delivering them through the art of couture, it was a presentation of stylised deconstruction. Featuring pieces from Alexander McQueen to Burberry, Vivienne Westwood to Yohji Yamamoto and atmospheric moving image by Nick Knight and Ruth Hogben, the exhibition was a fashion thinking showcase of an ever-present part of our culture. And, despite many of the nights’ guests being punked by the dress code, be sure to check out our coverage of the Met Ball’s punk fashion winners.
