Mugler S/S 2012

Just take Lady Gaga’s word for it, and “Don’t f*** with a Mugler Woman”. Mugler women—as seen in the line’s latest Spring/Summer collection—aren’t scared to wear provocative, more-bare-than-there pieces, lofty, pin-thin stilettos, and their hair slicked back in a no-nonsense wet mullet ‘do.

Although the Lady herself wasn’t in attendance this season, she did make an appearance in the label’s pre-show film, donning diamond buckteeth and green-tinted pigtails. And, as always, the Mugler label never fails to put on a show. Designer Nicola Formichetti—this being his second women’s ready-to-wear collection as Mugler’s Creative Director—traded in last year’s sheers and latex for this year’s stretch and cut-outs. Featuring asymmetrical cuts, stray swirls of fabric, and unforgiving, body-hugging pieces, the collection showcased a variety of sharp, strong silhouettes, balanced by a neutral color scheme of beige, black, and white.

I’ll admit these pieces may be a tad difficult for the majority of female shapes and sizes to pull off. But if any designer can show them how, Nicola—also known as the world’s most influential stylist, with a sizable number of fans, even before signing onto the famous fashion house—is definitely the one for the job.
