The sculptural paintings of Jason Martin stimulate both sight and touch with their vivid colors and striking surfaces. Working with oil and acrylic gel, Martin sweeps industrial surfaces such as aluminum, stainless steel and Plexiglass with a finely combed piece of metal or board.
The 3D effect achieved in pure pigment works is the result of applying color to moulded panels, which appear as close-ups of hardened paint on an artist’s palette. Martin’s castings of copper, bronze and nickel are solidified impressions of armor, caught between a liquid and solid. Martin lives and works between London and Portugal.
