An exhibit “It’s Called Ffasiwn” opened at the Martin Parr Foundation is a series of mesmerizing photographs of the children living in the Welsh valleys. Clémentine Schneidermann and Charlotte James explore the role of fashion, imagination and raw creativity, and its transformative power on children who grow up in working-class families, in the areas where fashion trends are not-so-relevant.
First, there was a local workshop where children were learning styling and other fashion techniques with the help of the creative director Charlotte James. The finished projects were then photographed by Clémentine Schneidermann on the local streets or in the surrounding nature. The combinations of striking outfits, fun personalities, and the magical Welch nature resulted in the creation of surreal imagery.
