Jeff Koons “New Paintings and Sculpture” — New York, NY

This week, New York Magazine declared Jeff Koons to be the most successful artist since Andy Warhol. Needless to say, an exhibition of new paintings and sculpture from this world renowned creative talent is one that is certainly not to be missed. I have seen sculptures from Jeff Koons the of all shapes and sizes and all have been equally intriguing, fascinating, and visually challenging. I look forward to hearing the art world’s reaction to this newest installment of Koons’ work, and I will be sure to review and reflect on it myself in the very near future. This show could very well be a legend in the making.

Yoshimoto Nara — “Yoshimoto Nara” — New York, NY

I had the pleasure of viewing the above piece in person at Stephen Friedman Gallery in London circa 2011 and it was one of the most lovely, innocent, and intriguing sculptures I have ever seen to date. Now, Japanese artist Yoshimoto Nara will be presenting an exhibition of more of his wonderful work at Pace Gallery starting this week. From painting, to drawing, to sculpture, Nara always maintains his own unique aesthetic and stays true to his values as an artist. I cannot wait to see this next installment of his work.

Eirik Johnson — “Barrow Cabins” — Copenhagen, Denmark

This particular show by Eirik Johnson will be a series of diptychs showcasing various cabins and assorted small built structures. The exhibition will focus on the shape and design of the structures against a natural landscape and how the buildings interact with their setting. What I believe will make this exhibition special is that before the opening reception on Saturday, the artist himself will be giving a walk through of the exhibition giving his own take on how he created each piece. Very exciting!

Rena Bransten Gallery

Walk-through with the artist: Saturday, May 11, 3-4pm

Reception: Saturday, May 11, 4-6pm

Marie Lund — “Handstand” — Copenhagen, Denmark

I am loving the sleek minimalistic style of Marie Lund right now and her work will be on view at a gallery in downtown Copenhagen for the next few months! If you are in the area be sure to take a look as Lund usually packs her show full of subtle surprises and visual treats. Copenhagen has also been a hotbed of activity lately in terms of contemporary art and I will definitely be on the lookout for what new material this fascinating city has in store for us next.

Milan Image Art Fair

This year’s Milan Image Art fair will be the first ever international photography and video art fair in Italy. The fair is expecting a large turnout and with the revolution in digital photography and video that has happened with the last ten years, this art fair is right on trend. I am particularly looking forward to seeing images from the exhibitions being presented by Paci Contemporary and Dada East galleries.
