Digital collage artist Nicholas Mottola Jacobsen likes to fiddle around with classic art paintings on the computer, giving them the illusion of being torn. “I invent nothing, but I guess everything,” he says on his Tumblr site, translated from his native Italian. Taking another go at digital “defacement,” he also pixellates some old masterpieces, like the portrait of the ballerina Carlotta Chabert as Venus, by his countryman the 18th century romanticist painter Francesco Hayez.
