Women are beautiful. Women with style and a purpose are even more beautiful. In this dynamic and progressive new video, directed by Cass Bird and starring carefree model/muse Daria Werbowy, we see evidence of just how versatile the female image can be and how hard it can be to tear your eyes away.
The short film’s cross-sexual caricatures showcase the multiple faces of femininity and are infused with stylistic associations ranging from the polish of Cindy Sherman’s masculin-feminin photography to the grit of an early 90’s public service announcement. The final frame of Werbowy defiantly rubbing her perfectly applied lipstick across her face leaving a smeary streak across her cheek, brings me way back to this clever quote from ancient writer Sappho, one of the first ever recorded female creatives, “What creature is it that is female in nature?” Well, wouldn’t you like to know!
