In a true celebration of craftsmanship and materiality, Young Norweigian designer Stian Korntved Ruud committed himself to creating a spoon every day, for 365 days.
Exploring the organic qualities of wood his project reveals how adding a function can beautifully refine a piece of wood. Challenging today’s consumerist and throwaway society, he shares, “I’ve ‘always experimented [with], modified, repaired and destroyed the objects around me.”
What results is a unique collection of beautiful hard carved spoons from various types of wood. Intuitive, raw and tactile; each spoon embodies a modern aesthetic but references the integrity and warmth of a material that has been used by Norwigans for generations. This talented designer sure does bring a new meaning to spooning!
