Pretziada is a creative studio, based on the island of Sardinia. The two founders Kyre Cheven & Ivano Atzori moved to the Southwest corner of Sardinia to start working with artisans on resuscitating local craft. Indeed, their work promotes the heritage of this territory through words, photography and a collection of design objects made with local artisans : « As we got to know the people and the crafts and the culture, we were more and more astonished that so few people outside of Italy had ever heard of the island ».
Research and narration are at the heart of their interdisciplinary artistic actions. Their rug collections are authentic and graphically rich. The heritage of Sardinian woven history is mixed with contemporary patterns and colors. With Heritage Collection they are adapting personal designs to today’s production capabilities and color schemes, the collection reintroduces traditional, historical pieces and tells their stories.
Pretziada Studio also works on decorative objects and pieces of furniture with the same philosophy : bringing the past to a modern reinterpretation. For exemple with Siri Vases, long ago this type of objects were used as canteens, slung over their shoulder as they marched by Grecs and Romans. Now, void of usefulness,we place them in spots around the house to admire their beauty. They are made by Walter Usai, a craftsman from the isle with its very own signature aesthetic.
With the Inès Chair, Pretziada Studio paired up with Chiara Andreatti and Pierpaolo Mandis to dig in the history of these caned chairs, usually found in old rural Sicilian homes. Pierpaolo is a third generation woodworker and chair maker from the hillside town of Mogoro. They kept the original shape while making them bigger overall to make it more comfortable.
