Cedric Charlier S/S 2013

CEDRIC_CHARLIER_SS _TRENDLANDCedric Charlier may have been creative director for Cacharel, and he may have come up through the ranks at Givenchy and Lanvin, but with the launch of his own brand, Cedric Charlier, he is in his element. Obviously born to do this, finally, he is exactly where he should be, and where he will shine for years to come. Charlier may be young, but he is a true artist at heart boldly displaying this deep love in his collections. Not only is he an artist, he loves the process of the art and delves in it’s many essences as much as he can. From his runway shows, which are really performance pieces to his clothing, the art is integral to his aesthetic and brand. This season, one of staple separates, he used neutrals as a foundation for the intense color that was to be the emotional core of the collection. The insane orange was inspired from mercurochrome, a liquid plaster, and not only was it referenced in the apparel, but in the make up as well. Part tribal, part conceptual, all authentic creative talent, with the self asurdeness needed to pull it off. Bold brushstrokes of color dominated the mid to last part of the show heightening the play of abstract and silhouette.. “I’m really attracted to movement in the line and I think there’s nothing more beautiful than someone walking the streets or wearing something interesting and moving. The movement is something totally positive for me.”
