Babak Golkar’s Installations

Mostly known for his ‘Negotiating Space‘ installations where he installed skyscraper models over Persian carpets, the Canada-based Iranian artist Babak Golkar‘s practice spreads across diverse medium, ranging from drawing, video, performance, sculpture and site-specific installation; nonetheless, his interests in subjects and issues surrounding his practice remain constant. While employing engagement strategies such as humor and performativity, subjects of his concept-driven projects center on architecture, while revisiting specific Modernist models.

Born in California and raised in Tehran, Golkar has been living in Vancouver since 1996. He has been actively participating in exhibitions in North America, Europe and Asia since 2001 and alongside his art practice, he has been teaching studio courses at Emily Carr University to the Graduate and undergraduate candidates since 2005.
