Nima Abbasi is fed up with what he describes as “generalized luxury.” Too many high-end brands, he believes, put too much emphasis on distractions such as advertising, events, and celebrity endorsements, often forgetting the product in the process. Another problem he sees with today’s luxury market: homogenization.
“On every street in every capital city and in every department store you bump into the same brands,”
says the 45-year-old entrepreneur, who was born in Iran and is based in New York.
“On some level, the whole convention of discovery has left the retail equation, even as the world has opened up through the Internet and affordable travel.”
