Paolo Sorrentino’s critically acclaimed 2004 film offers a poetic take on a gangster story.
Toni Servillo, Sorrentino’s favorite actor, plays Titta di Girolamo, a middle-aged loner who has been residing at the same Swiss hotel for eight years. His odd and at times extreme habits gradually begin to make sense as the story of his life so far unfolds. Despite all his inhibitions he finds himself in a touching love affair, yet struggles to leave his past behind him.
As always with Sorrentino’s films, the cinematography is beyond stylish and the carefully selected soundtrack complements the ambiance to perfection.
