Rashid Khalifa’s modern interpretation of Mashrabiya screens takes the observer to that intimate space behind the surface that is usually kept hidden from the viewer.
His architectural three-dimensional work, made of aluminium mesh, often suggests a feeling of movement, some of which seems to be floating in the air. Through the colors and polychromatic metal structures, the art pieces form a beauty of light cast and textured shadows, which is described by Khalifa as a spiritual journey with no fixed destination.
