Michel Gondry is amazing. If you aren’t familiar with his name, undoubtedly you know his films – Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Be Kind Rewind and The Science of Sleep are all products of his brilliant direction. His most recent project, Mood Indigo, is a French romantic fantasy drama featuring my favorite French actress Audrey Tautou.

Adapted from Boris Vian’s 1947 novel, L’Écume des Jours, the film is an unconventional love story about a young couple who fall in love and marry, but their happily-ever-after is abruptly interrupted by an unusual illness. Tautous’ sickness is caused by a deadly water lily growing in her lungs; the only cure is to surround her constantly with fresh flowers. The trailer has me mesmerized by the whimsical and dreamlike art direction, a catchy folk love jingle, and noteworthy cast. Mood Indigo will premiere in France on April 24, but unfortunately we are still waiting on word for the US release date.
