Inspired from the Janta Mantar cosmic architectures, the book « Observatories » depicts images of buildings (or building fragments) staged then photographed by Noémie Goudal. They are a selection of found architectural imageries that have been enlarged to around the size of a person, tiled across multiple sheets of paper and pasted together onto a light framework. Like set pieces or props, these paper-made structures are transported to the isolated coastal site where Goudal shoots them. Their fleeting existence in photographic space and their seemingly conflicting settings play on our sense of scale and geography.
