In their true color, MATTE Projects presents PAINTED BLACK, a three part musical experience taking place at Irving Plaza.
The series will kick off with a night of electronic music on February 13th at Irving Plaza. Act II will bring rock and roll to the same venue on February 20th. On March 13th, future hip-hop and R&B artists will take the stage at Irving, closing out the series with Act III.
Beyond a typical concert, PAINTED BLACK is an exploration of a color and a lifestyle through a live experience. In the pursuit of this, the musical acts will be paired with visual artists, stage builders, sculptors, fashion designers, and filmmakers, creating unique pieces to be debuted at the series.
For this series, MATTE is collaborating with Aerosyn Lex to build out the visual language and aesthetic surrounding each act. Aerosyn-Lex Mestrovic is an award-winning designer, calligrapher and creative director of the New York and London based label Earnest Endeavours. He has collaborated extensively with Kanye West and Kenzo. They are also working with Nathaniel Brown to create the stage design and graphics for each act. Nathaniel is known for his creative collaborations with Kanye West, Drake, Jay-Z and his work on Beyoncé’s recent world tour, as well as his on-going collaborations and commercial work with Showstudio, V magazine and Dior.
