Isabel Marant S/S 2013

Isabel Marant’s S/S 2013 collection brought back Elvis’ Hawaii days, tropical prints with embroidery, a real mix of her love of Americana and boho. She has kept her Marant DNA in tact but stepped out of her box and stepped it up, unexpected yet brave for a designer so closely aligned with a specific aesthetic. Marants’ girl never tries too hard, she looks like she really doesn’t care what anyone thinks, but knows she looks cooler than anyone on her block. Keeping threads of details from previous collections, lace, embellishments and paisley prints and aligning them with new shapes has stepped her game up considerably. She has managed to merge her quintessinal French coolness  with a casual American girl creating a whole new woman who is comfortable walking tall in both worlds. Now that she is opening her Melrose store in LA, and spending more time there, I can clearly see the SoCal influence in her work. Lucky for the American girl that this French designer has been able to cross breed into a super wearable, super chic and totally edgy  look.
