Written by Guest Blogger Marta Baniukiewicz Genera – plural for “Genus”, stands for a low-level biological classification system for organisms. It is also the title for an editorial in Hunter Magazine, shot by Jay Schoen. On the first visual level, the photographs touch upon the reference to nature, animals especially. The juxtaposition of artworks with fashion pieces mimics a natural world setting in loose brushwork and bright, vivid color paint, portraying the aesthetic and formal unity between the two. The editorial opens a fresh approach to fashion photography working with fine art. Neatly done, nature’s dominance is questioned through the body positions and facial expressions preserved in both images and transmitted from animal to human.
