Hövding Invisible Helmet

Hovding Invisible Bike Helmet

Fully endorsing this brilliant idea over 10 years in the making.. In spring, 2005,  Anna Haupt and Terese Alstin, Swedish industrial design master’s students at Lund University took note of traditional bike helmets: discomfort, limited peripheral vision, and complete lack of style.  They set out to create the impossible; an invisible bike helmet. After years of testing different ideas, materials, shapes, and theses, they came up with an inflatable collar.

The collar houses a sensor that detects abnormal movement in the cyclist and triggers an airbag which inflates in 0.1 seconds, covering the cyclist’s head. They also made sure to look at all normal movements, that may sometimes be jerky, to ensure the airbag won’t suddenly envelope your head if you turn your head quickly. This revolutionary idea not only gives the cyclist more sensory control, vision, and comfort, but it has tested to be much more effective on safety than the traditional helmet.

The airbag cushions the head and brain, reducing the blow, impact is cushioned and everyone is safer. Not yet approved in the USA, they are currently launching throughout Europe, which makes sense considering the European’s love for anything with 2 wheels.
