The opening sound of galloping horses was no understatement for what was to come at Givenchy’s F/W 2012 show in Paris. Designed by Riccardo Tisci, the collection featured an inventive mix of feminine and masculine pieces. As the models trotted down the runway in big disc earrings and leather riding boots you couldn’t help but notice the reference to Victorian riding costumes. The jackets reflected the precision of traditional riding attire, with their bustled panels and elaborate seaming. Tisci continuously played with contrasting textiles and colors. Including panels of pony skin juxtaposed against leather and wool. Bright color blocked mink jackets of red, black and natural browns definitely stood out amongst the rest. For the evening look the collection turned very feminine, with lingerie inspired dresses full of vibrant color combinations that gave the soft satin texture a strong energy.
