Fazenda Catuçaba [Brazil]

In one of the most beautiful Brazilian countryside areas, Fazenda Catuçaba, is an old coffee farm that has been reinvented into an exclusive retreat set in 450 hectares of hills and forests – bordering a stunning mountain chain on the fringes of an UNESCO nature reserve – in the state of São Paulo. Only a 2 hours drive from the sprawling megalopolis of São Paulo and 5 hours from Rio de Janeiro – the journey itself is an immersion into the local life and the infinite landscape of Brazil’s Atlantic forest regions.

Adventurous travelers in search of tranquillity can enjoy the deep contact with nature, explore the many secret corners of the state or simply enjoy the locally organic produce, coffee and sugar cane liquor – the dinning experience here is a showcase of traditional Brazilian countryside food elevated to fine dinning standards.

More than a luxury hotel, the farm has a homely atmosphere – intentionally created to maximize the overwhelmingly charm and beauty of the place. Luxury here is way beyond the bespoke service, art experiences and designed spaces – it is the simplicity of countryside life, cultural immersion and the farmland life style in a sort of home stay vibe.

The main farmhouse, built circa 1850, has been completely, sensitively and expertly restored and the property counts with 10 rooms and three villas – in a countryside chic style that showcases local modern art and indigenous art from the Xingu Indigenous Reserve tribes from north Brazil. The villas are stunning and are scattered around the state, all affording endless views of fields and green forests. Invoking the best of Brazilian furniture design – with many fine pieces from the 1940’s, the palette of stunning vintage & modern furniture on offer is signed by masters of design like Lucio Costa, the architect responsible for the construction of Brasilia and Zanine Caldas, a master of wood work.

Experiences include horse riding into the tropical horizon, having a picnic and wine tasting at top of a mountain at sunset – Latin guitar player included – or  swimming by a magnificent pristine waterfall. Falling in love with Brazil at Fazenda Catuçaba is most likely an easy task.
