Donny’s Bar in Sydney

Donnys Bar by luchetti krelle sydney

Sydney-based architecture firm Luchetti Krelle created a intrepid mélange of neo-rustic elements inside a Chinatown-lite inner shell; making the best of a tight budget and successfully nailing the NY-Loft concept for Donny’s Bar.

Luchetti Krelle harmonized the concrete floor, exposed brick walls and dark timber with explicit urban elements like chain-link fences, black metal and apparent plumbing; consequently bypassing the usual high-priced post-industrial garnishes and adding the right amount of grittiness. To balance things out the lighting project uses bare light bulbs, in various formats and shapes, creating an inviting and warm atmosphere.

Manipulating various recycled materials to great effect and injecting stylish elements in every nook and cranny for this pub isn’t an easy feat; many architects are falling into the expensive post-industrial rut, and that is a contradiction in itself, since low cost and creativity through the use of unexpected materials are what made NY-lofts interesting in the first place.
