What would Burberry be without its trench coats (and trench coats be without Burberry)? And this season, they decided to remind us of that fact, with a fresh candy-coated array in lace, satin, and metallics. Taking a page from the label’s archive of corsets and capes, head designer Christopher Bailey describes the collection as being “very British glamour”, but this time “a little bit sassier, a little bit sexier, and a little bit more joyful”. These were paired with a similarly classic selection of shorts, peplums, pencil skirts, and wedge heels.
But perhaps the most notable was the trifecta affair around the fashion: a physical show set in the park, a live streaming to the company’s new flagship store on Regent Street, and a digital gallery for the sake of those around the globe. “People are stopping work to watch,” notes Christopher. “You’ve got to give them a good reason.”
