Balmain F/W 2013-14

Balmain’s Fall collection transports us back to the Disco Era, with a glistening selection of metallic crepe fabrics and jewelled embellishments reminiscent of the 1980’s.  The inspiration was plucked from the dark depths of the fashion scene when David Bowie, clad in leather trim, was in cult classic Labyrinth. Along the same lines, my first thought when I saw the exaggerated shoulders and boxy silhouette (which to be honest are hard to miss) was 80’s TV series Dynasty. You could of swapped Karlie Kloss for Joan Collins and we would have truly been taken back in time. It is obvious that creative director Olivier Rousteing has been heavily influenced by passing trends in previous decades, yet his influence combined with a refreshing mix of structured waist belts and ultra revealing V-necks make for an influential collection this season.
