Alexander Wang S/S ’14

Alex Wang, (after this showing, we feel we can call him Alex), who has always been known for his downtown streetwear look, seemed to inject a bit of playfulness and wit into this collection. Here we see a totally nonchalant nod to 90’s branding style: a touch of grunge, logos and “explicit’ warning labels, big and bold. He explained, the reason for the logos on his Spring clothes was the nostalgia he feels for a time when “fashion was really fun, when there was wit and humor, and it wasn’t so serious.” Though the color spectrum was a bit of a departure for Wang’s usual all noir palette, the cheekyness of the almost completely unbuttoned button-up helped maintain the Wang girl’s cool downtown vibe. I mean, who else could make a schoolgirl-like cardigan and shorts look scandalous, almost grungy, yet still totally wearable? Hmm, we’re going with: no one.
