Swell Guatemala, a surf and lifestyle boutique hotel, opened in late 2018 in the ‘it’ surf destination of Guatemala, El Paredon. The 8-room property sits on the stunning untouched volcanic black sand beach with its dedication to design, defines the term barefoot chic.
Architect Elan Ibghy and designer Marie Bonnefond, inspired by the country, blends modern with rustic, using all local craftsman and beautiful Guatemalan textiles. The thoughtful spaces promote relaxing, with hammocks and cozy nooks everywhere. The rooms vary, some with thatch roofs or others more contemporary with concrete interiors and swim up platforms. They offer delicious cocktails, cold beers, and a tasting menu dinner 3 nights a week.
Swell sits nestled in a small fishing village, with the reputation of having the best surf in the country and has drawn surfers from all over the world. The beach itself is massive and at times without anyone else in sight. The best draw are the sunsets, which are only matched by its sunrises and looks as if Monet painted it himself.
Guests can take a private surf lesson, do yoga on the terrace platform, explore the village, or take a hammock and chill out on Swell’s beachside palapa. Either way, plan to struggle leaving your new surf home away from home.
