San Blas is Home to the Kuna, an autonomous indigenous group who run San Blas with minimal interference from the national government. Actually, they were celebrating their 25 years of independence (from Panama) while I was there.

A magical trip at only 2 hours drive from Panama City. An archipelago comprising approximately 365 islands and cays, of which only 49 are inhabited. They lie off the north coast of the Isthmus of Panama, east of the Panama Canal.
