Leave it to Phillip Lim to create a “Cut Up” collection that is entirely, unbelievably put together. Already a fashion industry darling, the designer managed to attract even more love this season with a move towards a notably youthful street aesthetic.
Phillip cites the 1920s Dada-ist art movement as his inspiration (as well as the 70s and 90s rock musician subculture than followed), which explains the resurrection of Frankies “Relax” band t-shirts, hot pink dungarees, golden creepers, and a girl’s pick of floral dresses. In Phillip’s hands, the nostalgic grunge appeal was reordered and streamlined—in a way that only he can do—giving it a kick of modern panache and polish as a contemporary, and totally covetable, collection.
