Glove and accessories designer Thomasine Barnekow has had a great collaborative relationship with Walter van Beirendonck for a few seasons now. An adventurous spirit is a mutually ever expanding commonality binding them together in creative bliss. Here is a partnership that was kind of meant to be. Thomasine for Walter van Beirendonk Mens S/S 2013 is a graphic, topographic series, black and white with heavy sexual tonality. In addition to gloves, she produced a mask series for him in 2012, Lust Never Sleeps, (images below) an interesting combination of S&M, tradition (herringbone) and tribal ensconced into a character with interesting curiosities yet not too intimidating.
Since graduating from the prestigious Design Academy Eindhoven in 2006, the Swedish designer has, since 2011, branched out into couture designing gloves that all have an architectural identity (textile and shape woven together) for fashion designers, theater and private customers. She describes her work as “functional accessories with a decorative construction”, and she keeps her production small and responsible, producing in established classic French glove houses, using the best materials.
