Belgian photographer Jef Claes is a master at working with colorful, geometric, and graphic subjects. While it’s his series of not so candid portraits of girls that caught our eye, we’re still amused at his ability to create just enough contrast and symmetry in each image.
The basis for Claes’ work comes from landscapes and fashion where he finds lines, colors and shapes that can be juxtaposed nicely within the context. When photographing people, we can sense his attraction to structure and it’s interesting how he stays true to his aesthetics even when it comes to less controllable subjects such as people.
