The digital universe has reality bound in a constant state of hybrid artificiality. The need to create both modern and organic design is evident in the rise of hand-crafted illustration and typography. Inspired by the need to illustrate a road trip across America, Peter Crawley began hand stitching watercolor paper with needle and cotton thread. His illustration art has evolved to include architectural renderings, abstract expressions of mathematical sequence and the sound waves of music. In his series Audio-Visual, Crawley stitches the horizontal lines of each wavelength for one minute of audio. The result is a graphic rendition of music as artistic visualization.
