SPRING SUMMER 2019

Advancing the brand’s core sentiments of timeless quietude and modular material experience, Lauren Manoogian’s Spring Summer 2019 collection furthers its focus to express cloth as intimate architecture with a gentle contrast between semblance of surface and honest utility. Drawing from unapologetically neutral palettes of abstract canvases and the female form as both tangibly fragile and resilient vessels, these elevated essentials are calmly exact but never clinical, encouraging the maker to allow space for unique variation. Exposing these hand-processes, too, informs the final product. Accumulated patinas, sculptural basketry, and modern paper manipulation find their way into the collection’s sensibility resulting in gestural silhouettes that bring a new freedom to spring knitwear.

Offering a range of weight and texture to showcase the season’s innovations, the forthcoming collection maintains balance and interest through thoughtful stitch and plied yarn variation, low-waste creative pattern making, and familial color assignments.

Highlights from the season include a raised basketweave knit, stitched of a cotton-linen-tussah silk yarn with a subtle lustre in flaxen beige. Woven, spacious separates of a Japanese paper-cotton textile are offered in shoji white or papyrus cream and boast a satisfying crunch in the hand. Modestly feminine, layering silhouettes are knit up in a series linen-cotton blends with fully fashioned tiers and serve as muted ruffles. Finer gauge organic cotton styles in traditional stockinette basics are not ignored. Structured, dry-handed cotton jersey grounds a maxi dolman

T-shirt dress with a generous, sweeping finish. Exploration of tactility leans further into a leather-like Italian coated cotton yarn in the latest iteration of the brand’s longstanding crocheted bowl bag and net totes. Collectively, they establish that knits can confidently make their way into transitional and warm-weather wardrobes alike.

With the continued success of a core accessories offering, this season’s footwear capsule builds on the brand’s first collaboration with neo-luxury label Feit for AW18 as Manoogian now joins design forces with longtime friends and cult-label comrades No. 6 for a spring clog collaboration.

The low-profile, blonde wood-based clogs and minimalist slide sandals are offered in natural canvas, veg-tan leather, and textured suede with hand-stapled finishings. Kindly aligned with both brands’ design and production tenets, the limited-edition assortment is handmade in the USA and fills the need for equal parts comfort and raw charm.
