Between art and design, Chinese-born designer Jinya Zhao has conceived two stunning collections of glassware. Zhao has been working with glass for about six years using it as a medium to explore themes of environment, emotion and personal experiences. She is always seeking to explore how art affects people; especially, how glass as a material creates an emotional response among its audience.
In one of the collection, she uses soft curved frosted glass balancing upon angular metal forms; And in the other, stacked vessels with opaque and layered blown glass to deliberately obscure the interior. Both explore the subtle relationship between color, form, and structure, and how different glass treatments can influence a viewer’s perception and emotional response.
