When Portuguese illustrator Guiomar Teles was a child she always tried to reproduce her mother’s paintings. Instead of oil her mom gave her a pen and scissors with which she made her firsts collages. She constantly looked for textures, shapes and colors in magazines and it seems that some images scream to be chosen. The collages and letters blend with the paint, all merging together with the help of the computer. Pastel tones and aged images, combining drawing with photography are characteristics that she likes to explore.
The illustration will express its own needs. A little more blue, a pattern here, a dab there, larger letters, a more exaggerated view, until the composition is balanced. When that happens, the illustration will tell you that it’s finished.
