Design Commune by Neri & Hu

neri and hu design commune

Not unlike much of Neri & Hu’s architecture throughout China, Shanghai’s newest addition by the duo is a hub for critical dialogue and exchange for designers. To house Design commune, a furniture retailer founded by Chinese architects, the pair renovated a British-built 1910’s police headquarters into a new flagship store, grafting white-walls into the multi-room building within its vibrant outer brick walls. The renovation resulted in this beautiful stark and rich space. Intended to be used as a showroom and a meeting center for creative minds, it is great to see that the duo continue to facilitate virtuous design ideas for their community while leading the cutting edge of an aesthetic movement.
