For this amazing watch brand from Belgium, the Ressence avant-garde design distinguishes itself through minimalism and timelessness, to approximate the archetype of a watch, emphasizing on its main purpose, to display time. The watch case has a diameter of 42mm and a thickness of about 13 mm and has no bezel.
The time-module is partly mounted inside the sapphire glasses that are flush mounted with the watch case. The outer shape of the watch feels soft like a pebble.
Created and designed by industrial designer Benoit Mintiens, the RESSENCE dial is the result of this holistic thinking method. The origin of the dial concept has been the observation that reading time on hand dials, when trained, is faster than reading digits. The human brain has developed cognitive patterns that translate an image projected by the position of the hands into time conception. This knowledge has become universal. Even more than for languages, reading time with hands has become a ‘world knowledge heritage’.
Spherical discs displaying hours, minutes, seconds and days revolve under the domed sapphire crystal. The indications discs continually revolve, as does the whole dial itself. The face of the watch is constantly changing in the same way that a human face is transformed by each passing emotion.
The dial and indications are curved (radius 125mm). All the dial components are milled out of Maillechort. The indications, engraved in the discs are filled with grade A Super-Luminova® and glow green in the dark. The display system has been invented developed and patented by Ressence and comprises 18 gears and 28 jewels (out of 56 jewels in total), three offset bi-axial satellites. By virtue of the convex curve of the dial, the angle of the satellite indications is approximately 3° for the hours and 4.75° for the seconds.
