Bence Bakonyi and Kira Koroknai’s ‘Floating’

Bence Bakonyi and Kira Koroknai explore the concept of man in his relationship to his environment in their new series “Floating”.  Are we capable of viewing space without imagining ourselves in it?  The series, photographed by Bakonyi (check out last weeks post on the Hungarian photographer), shows humans in an artificial, man-built environment, providing the background to social relationships.  The settings themselves require a set of behavioral patterns, which by nature is coupled with a certain level of sacrifice.  Space becomes a symbol of restrictive conditions belonging to a community, but in this series, the floating figures free themselves.
