Kristina Varaksina is a New York-based, Russian photographer on the lookout of her place in the world. After years of living in the United States, she has not arrived at a moment to consider herself fully ‘American’. It is the feeling of non-belonging that led to a photography series of self-portraits. Taken at strangers’ homes, each visual reflects a sense of alienation and a desire to fit in. Dreamy and ethereal photographs examine the idea of leading a different life in a completely different setting.
