California born Johanna Grawunder is something of a light artist. Having said to Dwell magazine that a turned-off chandelier is “one of the saddest things in the world,” her desire to illuminate is realized in a stylized manner.
Designing minimalist shapes and forms that suspend and glow as pieces of ethereal furniture, she utilizes a number of different techniques and approaches to create the desired effect. Be it her use of material or technology, her piece placement or thought process, Grawunder is a designer well-versed in the sculpting of light.
